Pine timber, cutover tracts and hunting land around Lufkin and Angelina County, with the underbrush mulched in place and the good pines left standing. From Lake Kurth to the country around Sam Rayburn.
Lufkin is timber country. Angelina County is densely forested with longleaf, shortleaf, loblolly and slash pine mixed with gum, magnolia, elm, hickory and oak, and the Angelina National Forest covers more than 150,000 acres around Sam Rayburn. The town grew on lumber, paper and plywood, it is home to the Texas Forestry Museum, and the headquarters for all four national forests in Texas is here.
The ground is sand and mud over the old Eocene formations that run north to south through the area, with clayey sands on the steeper slopes to the north. Around Lufkin the work we see is pine land: cutover tracts that came back thick with sweetgum and brush, hunting land that needs lanes and plots, and new homesites on wooded acreage outside town toward Diboll, Hudson, Huntington, Zavalla and Burke.
Longleaf, shortleaf, loblolly and slash pine with gum, magnolia and oak. Across East Texas woods, Chinese tallow is the most widespread invasive tree and it is spreading.
Sand and mud with clayey sands on the northern slopes. The sand mulches clean, the slopes and bottoms slow things down.

The brush under your pines ground down so the stand is open and walkable, without scarring the trees you are growing.
Forestry mulching
Cutover land that came back thick, opened for a homesite, a road in or a fresh start, with the best trees kept.
Land clearing
Shooting lanes, trails and food plot edges opened through pine and hardwood, with repeat passes before season.
Land managementThese are Grigsby’s own photos and phone video from recent jobs, not stock photos. The pine and brush in them is the same growth we clear around Lufkin.

Inside Lufkin city limits, the zoning ordinance’s landscape and tree preservation rules require a clearing permit before site work that removes trees. Removing underbrush does not need a permit, and the permit is not required on developed single family or duplex lots. Where a permit applies, the ordinance generally asks for five mature trees per acre to be kept, with a mitigation fee when that cannot be met, and owners with timber valuation need the permit before a harvest.
Around Sam Rayburn, the Corps of Engineers does not allow adjoining owners to cut trees, clear brush or mow on government land without a permit from the Sam Rayburn project office.
Rural Angelina County land outside the city and off Corps land generally needs no clearing permit unless it is in a floodplain. We flag what applies to your property when we quote.

We quote every property on its own. Around Lufkin, these make the biggest difference.
Open timber with light brush goes quickly. A cutover tract grown back solid in sweetgum and vines takes real machine time.
Working carefully around pines you are growing for timber takes longer than clearing everything.
Clayey slopes north of town and wet bottoms slow the mulcher compared to flat sand.
Logging roads and wide gates keep it simple. Soft roads and tight gates add time.

It depends on how thick the regrowth is, the timber you want to keep, the slopes and bottoms, and the access. We quote each Lufkin property individually. Text photos and a pin to (903) 952-9217 for a straight estimate.
Lufkin's clearing permit covers site work that removes trees inside city limits, but removing underbrush does not need a permit, which is most forestry mulching work. Clearing trees on undeveloped land in town generally does.
Yes. We grind the brush under the stand and work around the pines you are growing, without a blade near the trunks.
On your own land, yes. On Corps of Engineers land around the lake, nobody can cut trees, clear brush or mow without a permit from the Sam Rayburn project office.
It gets mulched in place. There are no burn piles and nothing hauled off, and the mulch keeps the sandy ground from washing.
A homesite or a few hunting lanes can be a day. A larger cutover tract takes longer. We give you a day count with the estimate.
Usually. Send a few photos of the thickest areas, the road in, and a map pin. If we need to walk it, we will say so.
